Amanda Brugel
Pointe Claire in Montreal's West Island is a tiny, quiet town. The West Island, to those who are unfamiliar with it, is a large region that runs from Lachine to the west. Amanda Brugel's hometown is often cited, however her short time in the city wasn't. Brugel was raised on Courtice just outside Oshawa located in Ontario. She aspired to be professional, however due to a rapid growth spurt she outgrew every dance partner she met. The Toronto Star article revealed she's six feet tall, with heels. When I outgrew my male friends, I quit. Many former dancers turn to acting, and in the case of Brugel it was a suggestion from her teacher in drama. The teacher who suggested she pursue a role for the annual school production. The teacher who suggested she go after a role in the school's annual show. This led to her being awarded the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship from York University. In 2000 she graduated with a BA in Fine Arts at York University. Over the last 20 years, Brugel's work been featured on both the small and large screen. She gained the most recognition when she landed her role as Rita on the award-winning TV show The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel is the only Canadian actor in the season 1 and only appeared at times.
